There are many countries that are too poor to provide medical treatment to the people living there. Several people die avoidable deaths due to the lack of money. It is sad but doctors rarely want to provide free services. Ethiopia has many diseases killing the people that live there. Noma is a disease that is very treatable, but only if you have the funding. It requires surgery and the use of antibiotics. Many people have contracted this disease in Ethiopia. This is a disease that eats away tissue on the body. the strange thing is that it will only attack a person’s face. It leaves holes in the face and has a very high death rate if left untreated. Those that are left untreated have a 90% death rate.

Mr. Le Roux Fourie typically runs a Leeds plastic surgery clinic. He decided to lend a helping hand to these people in their time of crisis. Many doctors will not provide anyone free services, but he managed to locate some that were willing to. This group went to Ethiopia and performed surgeries on the sick people that contracted Noma. They stayed for ten days and worked nonstop trying to treat these people. there were way too many people to treat in one visit. Other doctors heard of this and began to find their own groups to take to Ethiopia. Two surgeries were needed to cure those with Noma. They also had to supply several doses of antibiotics.

It was hard to turn people down and see those that had no future other than a painful death. The team that Fourie formed was able to helped 44 people with their services. This came nowhere close to meeting the needs of the community. Someday medicine and treatment could be more accessible because of Fourie read more at www.lerouxfourie.co.uk
